Cultural association Big Band Krško was established in 1994 when Aleš Suša took over the management and conducting of the orchestra. Members of the orchestra come mostly from Krško and wider Posavje Region. The orchestra’s repertoire consists of wide selection of songs and different music styles: festival orchestra music, dance music, swing, Latin, fusion, funk and jazz rock music.
On an amateur level the Big Band Krško is one of the best Slovenian big bands. Many of first members of Big Band Krško are now graduates of European and world’s jazz academies who work professionally in Slovenian and international jazz and pop scene (Aleš Suša, Miha Koretič, Lovro Ravbar, Bojan Zupančič, Rok Lopatič, Matjaž Zorko, Janez Gabrič, Rok Štirn, Jaka Kopač, Manca Klanjšček, Tjaša Fabjančič), and play with renowned and popular groups such as The Fool Cool Jazz Orchestra, Big Band RTV Slovenija, Symphony Orchestra RTV Slovenija, LeelooJammais, Laibach, Demolition Group, Soulfood Inc., Glam, Magnifico & Turbolenza, Tinkara Kovač & Band and so on).
The Big Band Krško musicians have performed on many occasions and numerous concerts and have made a big impression on a large number of listeners. The orchestra likes to perform for the local people every year. They organize concerts and play at different festivals. The Big band Krško is also an initiator and organizer of the festival ‘Big Band Fest’, annual event, where Slovenian big bands meet and the ‘Jazz Festival Krško’. The festivals took place in 1994, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. The Big Band already performed all across Slovenia at many festivals such as Festival Lent – Jazz Lent and The Big Stage at Lent; Musical Autumn in Samobor, Croatia; Trnfest, Ljubljana, Slo. With these performances the Big Band earned acknowledgment for its quality work.
